Work camp Daily Life
The Volunteers work about 7-8 hours per day from Monday to Friday, with occasional work being done on Saturdays. The work is usually done before 1 o'clock, so that afternoons are free for various trips or other leisure activities. In the evenings, each camp arranges its own program of leisure and creative activities, including discussions, songs, dances and games. Weekends are free and allow time for excursions to various local attractions. Project partners are responsible for your room and board. Accommodation is usually simple - a modest rental house, a guesthouse and host family. You will get your meals at your work place and/or at the place where you will be staying. Volunteers are responsible for their own cleaning and chores. One volunteer is appointed camp-leader, usually together with a co-leader. Having a leader however does not mean, that she or he is organizing everything for the volunteers. In most cases the volunteers are responsible together for problem solving and decision-making at their workcamp. Share your thoughts with the others. Talk to your Camp-Leader or the workcamp/Project Head. If any difficulty cannot be sorted out in the workcamp site, then please urgently contact the WcK offices or officials for urgent assistance.

Volunteer's Responsibilities
· Volunteers accomplish their volunteer work in a responsible way
· Volunteers make their travel arrangements themselves (planning their trip and organize their visa, if required)
· Volunteers get sufficient insurance coverage for their travel and stay abroad
· Volunteers pay expenses for travel, leisure activities and personal needs out of their own pocket money
· Volunteers play an active role in the community life

Appeal
Volunteers are encouraged to bring along some second-hands/ old clothes or other donations for the poor children and widows if possible.

Insurance
WcK nor our community partners do not have the capacity to provide for adequate insurance for our volunteers. It is therefore important and advisable make prior insurance (health, accident, travel, third party liability etc) arrangements.

Relocation to work camp
An International volunteer normally arrives three or two days before the start of the workcamp start off date and stays with a host family which provide food and accommodation before relocating to the workcamp. During the short period, the volunteer acclimatizes; undergo in-country briefing and orientation.

General information on work camps
work camps are divided into four categories short term, midterm, long term and help a school programme. Human Rights project are suitable for law students, political scientist, anthropologist, economists and civil/human rights activist.

Travel and Arrival Details
Volunteer may easily obtain Visitors Visa valid for three months on arrival at Kenya's international airport (JKIA - Nairobi) at a fee of US $50.
·Majority of Kenya international volunteers mostly arrives through the Kenyan capital city Nairobi’s' Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) which is half-an-hour drive from the city center. The common mode of transport from the airport is either Taxi Cabs or mini-buses (The Volunteer also pay $40 Dollars for airport pick-up and dropping). Volunteer should email or fax his flight/arrival dates information in advance to be picked from
The JKIA Airport Nairobi by our personnel. (Please look around for our personnel with a hand-held board with ‘Your Name’ inscriptions or at the Airport International Arrivals Lounge).

Confirmation and Deadline
Volunteers are encouraged to confirm for workcamp participation at least a week before the start date. We request for the full names and passport numbers of the volunteers. Two Passport-Sized photographs are needed upon arrival during the registration process at our office in Nairobi.

About Us
WcK is a registered charity organization offering international and local volunteer(s) an opportunity to participate in short, mid term and long term voluntary work.

The work camps are community programmes particularly in third world countries like Kenya. The WcK programmes have been running since 2003, a group of local students, a number of volunteers, some from the NGOs circles had previously participated in charitable activities. Such as run for shelter, run for land mine ban, freedom from hunger walks, and served in orphanages and human rights work. We support people affected or infected with HIV/Aids, orphans, physically challenged and vulnerable children, provisional of basic education and teaching, community health work camps.

The WcK organizes monthly international voluntary work camps on community development projects for young people in various parts of the country. Its membership and participation is open to everyone over age 16 years from all over the world both skilled and non-skilled. It works with local, international voluntary organizations, non-governmental groups and communities to pool ideas, efforts and resources to enhance growth and development.

Workcamps
Volunteering in Kenya
Kenya is one of the most popular destinations for volunteer vacations in East Africa region. One acquires experience of a lifetime as volunteer(s) travel from one end to the other to work and make a real difference in the lives of a people.

Voluntary Work camp
Voluntary work camps are community-based projects in which a group of both local and international volunteers come together to engage and work on a selected project. They voluntarily and actively participate on social, ecological and or culturally relevant initiatives for the benefit of the community while at the same time earning valuable knowledge/skills.

Volunteers may also work or serve at human rights centres that too are based in diverse background and address certain problems that are peculiar.

Nature of voluntary programmes
Most of the work camps are available at community level and are meant to develop boost community growth or development around Kenya.

H. Protection and care for the girl child

There is also a programme calendar indicating where various work camps are located within Kenya and briefs on what they do or the work camp entails.

Work camp Duration
WcK offers work camp programmes that vary in length as follows. The location of the projects and time changes every season depending on the community needs around the year. The work mainly focuses on areas of income generating projects, conservation, and social services, fighting hunger, peace building and promoting social justice. The volunteer is free to assist the community in any other ways one wishes

a) Short-term works camps that spans from 2 to 3 weeks,
b) Midterm work camps (a period of a month to 6 months)
c) Long term (6 months and above).
d) Help A School Programme ( Running during school days )
Orphanage in KenyaOrphanage placements in Kenya are the most popular volunteer projects we have in Kenya today. The Volunteer in this exciting and rewarding programme provides very important assistance to the needy children who are often homeless, orphans and needy. The volunteer spends time teaching English, creative activities, games, providing basic health care, preparing and counseling.
The volunteer are required to provide inspiration, warmth, love and security to enhance a sense of belonging, comfort and identity in the wider community. It is an area worth trying in volunteer world; the end result is to change a poor child’s life! Terms and ConditionsWcK is interested in outgoing people who are of 16 years and above. The Volunteers must be psychologically prepared to live and work with people of diverse beliefs and cultural background. WcK encourage volunteers who are below 18 years of age to obtain consent from their parents or guardian. WcK however cannot able to pay the Volunteer expenses. A volunteer who is interested to serve with WcK must pay for the participation expenses as explained below;
Voluntary Programme Cost In Summary
1. Three Weeks Work camp - 250 Euro
2. Two successive Work camps - 450 Euro
3. One month Work camp - 300 Euro
4. Medium and Long Term Project (MLTV) - 300 Euro per month.
5. Help A School Programme ( 300 Euros per month)

Where Does the Programme Fee go?
1. Food and accommodation of volunteers for entire participation period
2. Placement of Volunteers to Work camp or Projects
3. Local travel to monitor work camps and volunteers performance
4. Supporting staffs’ field expenses during local transportation
5. International promotional activities/Advertising and meetings
6. Administrative costs, Rent and maintenance of office space in Kenya

Arrival and Accommodation Cost
1. Transport on arrival from the Airport to Host Family's Home by Taxis - $20. (The Volunteer pays same amount ($20s) at departure from City to the Airport).
2. Host Family on arrival in Kenya - $20 - a day per person to cater for Accommodations, food, water, among other needs.
The Volunteer(s) must make prior Insurance arrangements.
